Welcome to the first ever Eastside Puppy Pals blog entry! I thought I would just share a few of the current happenings in the group.
For the last year or so we’ve been inundated with M’s: Millie, Maggie, Millie, Maggie and Moe! We’re going to be 2 M’s lighter in August, however, because one of our Millies is moving to Seattle and the other is spending her summer in the Eastern Washington sunshine (to return in September).
The newest Eastside Puppy Pal is Riley, pictured below, who started with us at the ripe old age of 8 weeks. His owner has done everything right (training, socializing, proper feeding) and as a result Riley is a perfectly behaved little gentleman most of the time!
The group has been enjoying hikes in some places that are normally off limits by this time of year because the streams are usually dried up by now! But this year things have been flowing like they normally do in February. On the plus side, rainy days make for nice peaceful days at the dog park. And the cooler weather is definitely more comfortable for the dogs. When it gets over 70 degrees they tend to want to be less active. Seattle weather wimphood afflicts dogs too apparently!
My elderly dog “Coco” turned 18 1/2 in July! When a dog gets that old, I reckon, it’s best to celebrate early and often. I do have to leave him at home on hike days now because he’s a bit slow for all the young Springers and Labs, but he goes to the dog park with us and does a full hour. Here he is fetching last summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R6AsWgmc2o. Unfortunately he can’t really fetch anymore because his eyesight isn’t good enough to see where the ball goes.:( But it really is amazing to see him still trotting beside me like a young dog when we walk together. He’s a walking testament to proper feeding!
Well that’s all the news that’s fit to print! I’ll be posting regular updates when there is more to share. Thank you for visiting!
Best wishes,
Nora
